Energy efficiency standards for improving and optimising the energy consumption of electric driven machine units
The new 1 hour IEC Academy webinar is presenting the coordination and alignment of energy efficiency standards for improving and optimising the energy consumption of electric driven machine units – e.g. pump, fan, compressor and describing joint efforts into defining calculation and measurement of energy losses in electro-mechanical systems.

Energy efficiency standards (IEC and ISO) enable regulators to develop effective policies and regulations for energy efficiency and energy and power savings throughout the world.

Electric Motor driven systems like pumps, fans, compressors and machines, define approximately 50% of the global electricity use. A focus on efficiency and energy savings is a key priority for policymakers and industry.

IEC ACEE TG6 initiated in 2019 the CAISEMS project to promote energy efficiency through coordination and alignment of system standards by the involved TCs for electric motor systems.

This initiative will pass into an IEC & ISO Joint Advisory Group: JAG 22 by October 2021. The JAG 22 involves IEC SC 22G (PDS, secr.), IEC TC 2 (motors) and ISO TC 117 (fans). ISO TC 115 (pumps) and ISO TC 118 (compressors) are invited to participate as well as any other interested IEC and ISO committee.

An enhanced coordination through the JAG should lead to standards that enable users
• to measure and calculate energy efficiency
• to measure and calculate energy consumption and losses
• to calculate, measure and reduce power consumption
A concrete example of how such coordination can look like will be presented as well.
